Ex-Maple Leafs Winger Connor Brown Decimated by Brutal Hit, Leaves Conference Final Game

The Edmonton Oilers skated away with a resounding 6-1 victory in Game 3 of the Western Conference Final against the Dallas Stars but came away with a key injury late in the second period to forward Connor Brown.

The former Toronto Maple Leafs forward has found a nice niche in Edmonton and while he struggled at times during the regular season, he has turned it up in the playoffs with 5 goals and 8 points in 14 games. Unfortunately, the Oilers could be without his services after he was forced to exit the game late in the second period.

Making a play along the boards, Brown was met by Dallas Stars defenseman Alex Petrovic with a controversial high hit that looked to target his head. Brown went down in a heap, went to the locker room, and never returned, which left the Oilers shorthanded for the rest of the game.

Fortunately, the rest of the team came up to bat in the third period and scored 3 goals to take a 2-1 series lead with Game 4 taking place on Tuesday night in Edmonton.

It was a massive check from the Stars hulking defenseman but it remains to be seen if there will be any supplemental discipline. In real time, it just looked like a really hard hit, but when slowed down it seemed like Petrovic got a piece of Brown's head.

This series has definitely gotten a little more chippy and this isn't the first incident that has drawn the ire of either fan base after Roope Hintz was maliciously slashed by Darnell Nurse the game prior. Hintz was a game-time decision for today's game but did not dress.

Look for the temperature to increase ahead of Game 4 with the Stars looking to even the series and avoid going down 3 games to 1 in a rematch of last year's Western Conference Final.
