On Monday, the Anaheim Ducks shocked the NHL when they traded former sixth overall pick defenseman Jamie Drysdale and a 2025 second-round pick to the Philadelphia Flyers for 2022 fifth overall selection and WJC gold medalist Cutter Gauthier. Gauthier reportedly informed the Flyers he did not want to play for the Flyers and refused to meet with Flyers management during the 2024 World Juniors.
With Drysdale being traded, reports now indicate that another young star in the Ducks organization could be moved. On today's episode of "The Ray and Dregs Podcast", TSN's Darren Dreger revealed that highlight-reel machine Trevor Zegras is being shopped as well.
With the Ducks 30th overall in league standings, and a new GM in Pat Verbeek at the helm, they could look to retool their young core and prospect pool to build a more physical team and a more structured group. It will be interesting to see how the Ducks and Zegras navigate the rest of the season now that the rumours are out there. There is no rush for the Ducks to move Zegras given he is under contract for another two seasons, but they may not want this to become a distraction for the rest of the team.
