Earlier this week, the Calgary Flames and Vancouver Canucks made a deal that nobody saw coming, with Andrei Kuzmenko, a 1st round pick, two prospects and a conditional 4th round pick landing in Calgary in exchange for pending UFA Elias Lindholm. Now, it appears as though two other Canadian teams are coming together on a high profile trade.
Per TSN's Pierre LeBrun, the Winnipeg Jets and Montreal Canadiens are close to completing a deal involving veteran center and former 6th overall draft pick Sean Monahan, who will be headed to Winnipeg for an unspecified return.
Monahan has enjoyed somewhat of a career revival in Montreal this season, having registered 13 goals and 35 points in 49 games for the Canadiens. The Jets have been banged up for a lot of the year and the injury to top center Mark Scheifele must have opened the Jets' eyes to what life is like with a thin center group.
