Former Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has reportedly selected his new NHL team and the deal will be finalized as of July 1st.
After declaring his intentions to make a long-anticipated NHL return, it appears as though 3-time Stanley Cup champion Jonathan Toews has made his decision on where he'll play next season.
Jonathan Toews Had Plenty of Options, But Has Elected to Return to His Hometown
Recent reports had Toews linked to the Colorado Avalanche, Winnipeg Jets, Tampa Bay Lightning, and even the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, in the end, the Winnipeg native has decided to return home to become a member of the Jets.
Following the breaking news from TSN's Pierre LeBrun, who told fans that the deal is expected to be made official on July 1st, Chris Johnston chimed in to confirm that the contract will be chock-full of bonuses for the veteran forward.
While the Leafs were not able to successfully lure Toews to Toronto, they won't have to wait long to try to pull off a contingency plan, as free agency is less than two weeks away, and the team has plenty of money to spend, even after deals for John Tavares and Matthew Knies are finalized.
