Red Wings prospect earns 10-minute misconduct over a chicken nugget... seriously
Yesterday afternoon during a "kids" day at an ECHL game between the Toledo Walleye and Kalamazoo Wings, Toledo Walleye forward Kirill Tyutyayev received a ten-minute misconduct for a hilarious, albeit very silly, reason.
With 11 minutes to go in the second period, a fan threw a chicken nugget onto the ice during a stoppage of play as players were lining up for a faceoff. Tyutyayev simply returned the nugget to the crowd by shooting it over the glass with his stick, which is when he received a 10-minute misconduct.
According to Scouting the Refs, Tyutyayev was issued his misconduct for violation of Rule 39.4, which states that "a misconduct penalty (or game misconduct penalty at the discretion of the referee) shall be imposed on any player who deliberately throws any equipment out of the playing area."
I guess that means that chicken nuggets are now considered equipment until further notice?
The 23-year-old Russian is a former seventh-round pick of the Detroit Red Wings in the 2019 draft. He joined the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL for the 2021-22 season playing in 9 games. Last season he split time between the Griffins and the Walleyes and has begin this season with Toledo. In 18 games this season, Tyutyayev has registered 7 points, 18 penalty minutes and is minus-10.
