Today, the Leafs provided an update on forward Mitch Marner, who suffered a high-ankle sprain against Boston nearly two weeks ago. Unfortunately, it's not exactly good news.

Both Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe and general manager Brad Treliving spoke to the media regarding the Leafs' superstar winger, and after last week's report that Marner would ramp up his activity level this week, it looks like that's no longer going to be the case.

This is what Keefe had to say to the media this afternoon:

"It hasn't been responding the way that they had hoped so just stepping back a little bit with it."
- Keefe on Marner's high-ankle sprain

With Marner not skating today and being a little more than day-to-day now, it has raised concerns about when he will be able to return to the Leafs' lineup. The hope is that Marner sits out from their two-game road trip this week and is re-evaluated before the weekend.

GM Brad Treliving spoke to Gino Reda, the TSN host of 7-Eleven That's Hockey and shared some insight on Marner's injury:

"It's, in all likelihood, a minor injury, but we want to be respectful for it. Hopefully he's back sooner rather than later." - Treliving on Marner's status

On Monday afternoon, Joseph Zita of "The Leafs Nation" mentioned what many fans are likely thinking about Marner's recent skate around the net in Boston, when he took an unbalanced shot instead of shooting on an open net while on his forehand. That play resulted in the injury and it may be the same ankle he injured in the 2019-2020 season when he missed 11 games with a high-ankle sprain injury as well.

Keefe also stated that Marner's injury is probably "day-to-day away from being day-to-day", whatever that means. At this point, a week-to-week designation is probably more apt.
