The Columbus Blue Jackets have announced that they have placed forward Patrik Laine on the IR after he suffered a fractured clavicle in their overtime victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs last night.

The incident in question came after Maple Leafs defenseman William Lagesson slew-footed the Finnish forward who then tumbled into the boards and immediately grabbed his shoulder in pain. He will be sidelined for the next 6 weeks.

The former 2nd overall pick from the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has struggled to contribute and stay healthy as he has only registered 6 goals and 9 points in 18 games, while accruing a minus-10 rating.

Over the last 2 seasons, Laine looked to have regained his scoring touch with 48 goals and 108 points but he's only suited up for 111 games as he missed 27 games last year and 26 the year before that.

The Blue Jackets are currently last place in the Metropolitan Division with a 10-16-5 record and are already without the services of Boone Jenner, Jack Roslovic, Damon Severson, and Adam Boqvist.

There has been no word yet on whether or not Lagesson will have a hearing with Player Safety for the slew-foot.
