The first big trade of the NHL's official trade deadline day belonged to the Carolina Hurricanes, who swung big and grabbed former Capitals top-6 center Evgeny Kuznetsov, but the 2nd high profile trade of the day is a big one and it happens to involve a player whom the Maple Leafs had been linked to.
Toffoli, a Scarborough, Ontario native, was believed to be on the Maple Leafs' radar this week, but the interest was significant from a number of teams. Toffoli, being an 8-time 20+ goal scorer, was obviously a hot commodity that generated a lot of interest. Eventually, it was the Jets who prevailed in the bidding war for the 31-year-old winger.
At this point, the return for Toffoli is not known, but the Devils are believed to have landed multiple draft picks from the Jets in exchange for the former LA King, Vancouver Canuck, Montreal Canadien, Calgary Flame and New Jersey Devil.
