Craig Berube has the support of Brad Treliving and the Leafs for now, but would a new voice be better?

Brad Treliving was quick to dismiss the idea of replacing Craig Berube, but with the Leafs' poor play, one analyst is calling for the team to fire him.

The Leafs haven't had a stretch of hockey this bad since the 2015-16 season when they were purposely tanking to land Auston Matthews. It was acceptable then, but now, it has become infuriating for everyone.

Brad Treliving dismisses coaching change

In the midst of their current stretch of games in which Leafs have lost 7 of 8 games, GM Brad Treliving addressed the media, as he usually does at the quarter-season mark. There, he was asked about Berube's future and if a change was on the horizon.
"I believe fully in Craig (Berube) and the messaging (from the coaching staff)," said Treliving at the time.

While the Leafs' bench boss was given a vote of confidence a week ago, the debate around bringing in a new coach hasn't slowed.

Is a new voice needed in Toronto?

On Monday's edition of "Real Kyper and Bourne", Justin Bourne, Nick Kypreos and Sam McKee debated as to whether or not the Leafs would benefit from a coaching change.
Both McKee and Kypreos agreed that changing the coach would not change the results. Bourne, however, believes that a new voice in the room would be beneficial to the Leafs.
"I personally think a different coach would move the needle I don't think [Craig Berube] is a bad coach, but this game plan is not working."
Bourne did go on to say that injuries were a major factor in their current slide and believes they can still be a playoff team -- if they are healthy. Even acknowledging that, he was still a strong advocate for a change behind the bench.

DeBoer, other experienced coaches available

Pete DeBoer, Peter Laviolette and Gerard Gallant would certainly top the list for the Leafs if they were going to make a coaching change. All have had post-season success to varying degrees, but who is to say things would get better?
If Bourne believes that the issue is the gameplan, why not change the gameplan instead? At this point, it is worth a shot, and if that doesn't work, then make the coaching change.
