With Easton Cowan vying for a roster spot on opening night, the youngster is proving his NHL readiness after a wicked start to tonight's Leafs' pre-season contest.

Ahead of tonight's pre-season contest against the Ottawa Senators, the Toronto Maple Leafs assembled a lineup eerily similar to what we could see on opening night.
Within their line combinations, Easton Cowan was initially placed on the fourth line with Steven Lorentz and Scott Laughton as the Leafs were looking to see what else the youngster has in his tool-belt in an energy role.
So far, it's fair to say that he's looking quite ready for the NHL with a great assist on the power play that showcased his offensive skills, as well as his feistiness to get involved in extra-curricular activities after the whistle.
Cowan's power play assist was a thing of a beauty as he fed Bobby McMann with a no-look feed in the slot before the latter roofed a backhander past the Senators netminder to give them a 2-0 lead.
Later on in the period, Cowan got into it with Senators defenseman Donovan Sebrango, showcasing some nastiness, which should excite the Maple Leafs' faithful.
Cowan has a lot of the tools needed to make the Leafs' opening night roster and so far, just through the first half of this game, he's showcasing his versatility to the decision makers who will be finalizing the team in the next coming weeks.
