One of the Maple Leafs' most annoying rivals, Brad Marchand, has received supplemental discipline from the NHL's Department of Player Safety for Saturday's antics.

Brad Marchand has made a career out of being the NHL's number one pest, and even in the latter stages of his career, Marchand continues to find new ways to test the limits and skirt the line, occasionally crossing it, which he did again on Saturday.

Marchand Crosses The Line Again

During a matinee matchup between the Florida Panthers and Buffalo Sabres, Marchand found himself on the receiving end of a stiff cross check to the lower back from Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin.
Marchand responded by returning the favour with a nasty trip and then pounced on Dahlin to dispense some justice before being escorted off the ice by the officials, Dahlin's helmet still in hand. He proceeded to rip the straps off of the helmet, tossing them into the crowd before throwing Dahlin's helmet back onto the ice.
Even the broadcast team couldn't believe what they were seeing, and Dahlin's reaction was one of surprise and frustration over Marchand's behaviour.

Player Safety Steps In

It was always the expectation that the NHL's Department of Player Safety would have a look at the play for unsportsmanlike conduct, and the DoPS did not disappoint, announcing suppmental discipline for Marchand on Sunday.
Marchand being fined $5,000 is certainly not going to dissuade him from doing similar things in the future, as he is prone to all sorts of behaviour that either crosses lines or fringes on being entirely inappropriate. It's what Bruins and Panthers fans have come to love about him.
