The Legendary Don Cherry Makes a Sad but Inevitable Announcement

Known for his brash, loud and and non-apologetic personality -- and his vibrant suits -- Don Cherry was a staple for Canadian hockey fans during the first intermission on Saturday nights from 1982 to November of 2019.

Unfortunately, some controversial comments made by Cherry during his 'Coach's Corner' segment resulted in his firing by Sportsnet in November of 2019.

Since that time, the now 91-year-old has been sharing his opinions on his 'Grapevine' podcast with his son, Tim. On Sunday, however, at the end of their 313th episode, Cherry made a rather quiet, yet notable announcement.

After 313 episodes, Cherry made the announcement at the end of Sunday's episode with a quiet, quick and frail sign-off.

Despite his questionable comments at times, Cherry and 'Coach's Corner', which he hosted with long-time runningmate Ron MacLean, was always a 'must watch' on Saturday nights. Whether it was to see what he was going to say or just to see what type of suit he was wearing, Cherry captivated audiences for 37 years.

Prior to moving into broadcasting, Cherry played in 767 AHL games and 1 NHL game before coaching the Boston Bruins for five seasons, leading the club to four division titles and two Stanley Cup Finals appearances.
