The Toronto Maple Leafs hit the ice last night for their only exhibition game as they took on the Montreal Canadiens. The Leafs looked much more prepared than the Canadiens and skated away with a 4-2 victory. Toronto's penalty kill really put on a show, scoring two shorthanded goals. Leafs rookie Nick Robertson also tried to put on a show during his NHL debut. While Robertson had a rookie moment or two, he definitely didn't look out of place playing in an NHL game. Head coach Sheldon Keefe commented on what he saw after the game. «I thought he had some great sequences,» Sheldon Keefe said. «It was good to see him play with some confidence with the puck and also just move his feet and work.»
«We're gonna continue to just digest all of this here over the next few days,» Keefe said. «I wouldn't make any assumptions on Nick or some of the other positions on our lineup because we just haven't made the decisions ourselves. We're gonna talk about it.»Leafs forward Alexander Kerfoot was also a fan of what he saw. «It's really impressive, obviously — he's an impressive young kid,» Kerfoot said of Robertson, who had three shot attempts and also took a penalty for holding. «To step right into this situation, obviously never playing at this level, having only a couple weeks to practice — I think he's been outstanding in camp. You can just see whenever he's on the ice how good he is, how good he's going to be. He's a lot of fun to play with.»
