The type of season that Auston Matthews is having is a rare occurrence. No player since Teemu Selanne and Alexander Mogilny have eclipsed the 70-goal mark - which was achieved back in 1992-93 - but the 26-year-old sharp shooter is inching closer and closer with each passing game. It's been a sight to behold for the fanbase but it's also caught the attention of the hockey world, including Matthews' own teammates.
Reaves isn't wrong either. It's pretty difficult to score 70 goals in a single season in the video game, unless you're playing on rookie mode, but Matthews has been defying logic all season long. He might not have the assists to match his 48 goals as some have pointed out, but not many players have scored 33 goals in their last 30 games, let alone 15 goals in their last 12 games.
His natural hat-trick against Philadelphia on Thursday, where he scored 3 goals in 7:49 of game-time to completely change the momentum of the game, was just another day in the office for Matthews. His second hat trick in as many games, this time against the Ducks, was also pure routine for the two-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner.
