As everyone focuses on changes to the Leafs' forward group without Mitch Marner, one reporter suggests that the Leafs should ask veteran defenseman Morgan Rielly to waive his NMC.

The Maple Leafs enter the off-season with slightly less than $26M in cap space and are looking to create even more space by trading, waiving or buying out a pair of forwards in David Kampf and Calle Jarnkrok, and perhaps even Ryan Reaves.
While removing Jarnkrok and Kampf from the roster would create up to $4.5M in additional cap space for this coming season, they could be looking at moving out a more substantial contract to free up space in the years ahead.

Is Morgan Rielly's Time Up in Toronto?

Last week, Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli suggested that the Leafs should explore a trade involving the longest tenured Leafs player, Morgan Rielly, to free up $7.5M for each of the next four seasons.
Despite Rielly having a down year, he began to find his game in the post-season as he and new partner Brandon Carlo got accustomed to each other.
Holding a full no-movement clause until the 2028-29 season, and given that Rielly doesn't want a fresh start, it makes a deal highly unlikely.
That didn't stop Sportsnet's Nick Kypreos from ranting about trading Rielly on Monday's edition of The Real Kyper and Bourne.
"Whether you have a no-move or not, if it looks like it's not going anywhere or there isn't a mutual feel between two parties... then Morgan should consider lifting his no-move. Whatever the chemistry between him and the team and others... 'it's just not working and we're going to have to change something up. Give us a list.'"
Rielly has been with the Leafs since the 2013-14 season and has seen more than enough playoff failures, but many believe he has lost a step in recent years.
Whether that is due to him aging, being asked to do too much or simply having a rotating partner isn't clear, but Leafs Nation should expect the 31-year-old back with the Leafs next season unless something drastically changes.
