Just as everyone thought headlines would steer away from Mitch Marner, one Leafs reporter revealed the NHL is looking capitalize on the fallout early in the season.
While he had some extraordinary moments during his time in the blue and white, the former first-round pick seemingly wore out his welcome with fans over the past 12 months.
After the trade, everyone believed we had heard the last of the fallout between the Leafs and Marner, but from what Nick Alberga of 'Leafs Morning Take' is suggesting, the league is still looking to capitalize on the aftermath of the Leafs-Marner situation.
The NHL is slated to soon reveal the schedule for the 2025-26 season and it is expected that Marner's return to Toronto will be early in the season - according to Alberga.
On one hand, it will be good for Marner to get it out of the way and for Leafs Nation to 'welcome' him back and forget about it the rest of the season. On the other hand, at this point, everyone needs a break from it, and his return may mean more later in the season.
The schedule release is just a week away, and regardless of where Marner's return is slotted, everyone will have it circled on their calendars.
