It's the day after the big earthquake that shook the hockey world. The Toronto Maple Leafs of course fired head coach Mike Babcock yesterday and now some details are getting revealed. Apparently the Maple Leafs had already decided to fire Babcock after Saturday's beating by the Pittsburgh Penguins. However knowing that the story would be the biggest across the NHL, the Leafs decided to wait until after the Hockey Hall of Fame ceremonies to not steal any thunder away and everybody there being asked about the firing. As Elliotte Friedman and Mike Johnson discussed the firing on SiriusXM, another theory came up. John Tavares was cited as missing practice on Wednesday for "personal reasons", however that might not be it. Tavares could have been sent back to Toronto as captain to tell Mitch Marner about the firing face to face before flying back to Arizona with Marner so Marner could be around for the opening meetings with Sheldon Keefe. All of it seems very feasible, just unfortunately the Leafs lost another game while they were delaying the Babcock firing.
