Report: Brendan Shanahan Axed Marner Contract Two Weeks Ago.

"There's been plenty of chatter of how far apart the Toronto Maple Leafs and Mitch Marner are on a contract. From all accounts it seems the two sides are on the complete opposite ends of the spectrum. However, they might be closer than speculated. According to Rick Dhawliwal of Sportsnet, President Brendan Shanahan stepped in and blocked a contract that was ready to be signed between the two sides. Dhawliwal says Shanahan wouldn't approve the deal that happened about two weeks ago. Shanahan stepping in could be a good thing though as Dennis Bernstein of The Fourth Period appeared on TSN690 Friday and said that Shanahan is taking a much more active role in the negotiations and believes Shanahan will do his best to make sure Marner is suited up for Game 1 of the season.
