Canucks forward Kiefer Sherwood is one asset that the Leafs may covet, but the revealed asking price may have priced them out.

It's no secret the Maple Leafs have spent the past few months shopping players throughout their roster, looking for a meaningful upgrade without touching their future assets.
One name that might have been of interest was Vancouver Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood.
On paper, Sherwood is exactly what Toronto needs: a hard-hitting, high-motor winger who scores, forechecks, and brings the exact intangibles Craig Berube's system has been starving for.
But there's one problem, the price.

Vancouver's Ask: A 2027 First-Round Pick

Insider reports indicate that the Canucks' starting point in any Sherwood conversation is a first-round pick. And that's where things fall apart. Brad Treliving has repeatedly stated the Leafs are not willing to part with any futures, including their next available first. There's also the small issue that the Leafs don't have their first rounder in 2027 to consider.
With that, trade optimism has cooled fast, and t's a shame for Toronto. Sherwood would bring everything Dakota Joshua was expected to provide, but hasn't.
Joshua has just 3 goals and 6 points in 24 games, while Sherwood sits at 12 goals and 16 points in 26 games, a massive upgrade both physically and offensively, and at a cap hit of only $1.5 million. He's one of the best value contracts in the league.
From the Canucks' perspective, the ask is justified. Sherwood is on pace for nearly 40 goals and plays a premium style at a bargain cost. Selling low or settling for a mid-range roster player would make no sense.

Leafs Trending Toward Selling?

With the market inflation this season and the Leafs refusing to move key futures, the reality is sinking in: Toronto may be sellers at this year's deadline -- a scenario Leafs Nation hasn't seen in a long, long time.
