Despite the Leafs having had a bit of interest in Jordan Kyrou, a reunion with Craig Berube is probably off the table considering their controversial history.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been hard at work this summer in trying to bolster their lineup with a top-6 forward, primarily to replace Mitch Marner after his departure to the Vegas Golden Knights.
The Leafs reportedly kicked tires on Brock Boeser and Jordan Kyrou prior to the draft and free agency but were unable to land the coveted stars. The former re-signed with Vancouver, whereas the latter stayed in St. Louis, despite the litany of rumours.
Nevertheless, the Leafs did kick tires on Kyrou, but would a reunion with head coach Craig Berube make sense, considering his history with the fiery head coach before his departure?
Popular podcast 'Leafs Morning Take' tackled the idea and made an interesting proposal, that would have the Leafs sending Ben Danford, Nick Robertson, and a first round pick for Kyrou. However, Jay Rosehill wasn't too keen on the idea and gave us his insight into why that is:
"When you come to Toronto, you need everything to be interlocked and if you have some glaringly obvious problems with the fact that he's been vocal about not liking to play for Craig Berube, that's hard to overcome. I don't want any of that baggage in the locker room."
During the 2023-24 season, Kyrou made some comments regarding his stance on Berube after he was fired, stating "I've got no comment, he's not my coach anymore," before praising assistant coach Drew Bannister's promotion, believing the team needed a fresh start.
A reunion between the two could spell trouble, but considering the state of their relationship now, it could work out after Berube intimated that those comments were swept under the rug during an appearance with the Nasty Knuckles podcast.
The price of acquisition would need to make sense, but more importantly, Kyrou would have to accept the move with his full-NTC having just kicked in. Theoretically it's a move that helps the Leafs, but first and foremost, the relationship between Kyrou and Berube needs to be assessed before anything takes place, especially with the head coach having some sway in player personnel decisions. I'm not sure that's going to happen, and therefore, this one can probably comfortably be put to bed, especially with Kyrou's trade protection having kicked in.
