Patrick Marleau Comments On Being Traded So The Leafs Can Re-Sign Marner.

"It was a tight spot for everybody to be in but it had to be done. The Toronto Maple Leafs and general manager Kyle Dubas needed to get a trade done so they could open up salary cap space to re-sign Mitch Marner. Amongst a bunch of various moves Dubas shipped Patrick Marleau along with a first round pick to the Carolina Hurricanes. It was a desperation move which Marleau had to waive his no movement clause for, and he did, because he's that kind of guy. "No better person to do it for. That makes it easy. Those guys are great players and deserve everything they get."
Marleau is without a doubt one of the classiest guys to ever wear a Leafs' jersey.
