More Details Leak on Stolarz Extension With Maple Leafs

The Leafs are reportedly in the process of finalizing a new contract extension for veteran goaltender Anthony Stolarz, according to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman's report on Sunday morning.

Friedman reported on Sunday morning that the Leafs and Stolarz were working away to push the deal across the finish line, with an AAV in the $4M range. Now, fellow NHL Insider Kevin Weekes has added some new information to the equation.

Per Weekes, the Leafs and Stolarz are looking at a 4-year term, rather than the 3-year term that the Leafs had previous been pushing for.

The two sides have been negotiating in good faith throughout the entire process, with Stolarz being very clear that he likes Toronto, wants to stay, and doesn't need an inflated salary, which has made matters so much easier.

Stolarz did impose a bit of a personal deadline on the negotiations, stating that he wants to cut off talks when the season begins so he can focus solely on hockey.

It appears as though Leafs GM Brad Treliving was happy to oblige Stolarz, given his spectacular play and reasonable negotiating position.

If this deal does come in at 4 years and $4M(ish) per season, that will effectively give the Leafs a rock solid tandem locked in for the next few years below the $8M mark. tidy bit of work by Treliving, that.

Stolarz is likely to be quite busy, at least to begin this season, as Joseph Woll has taken a leave of absence from the team to deal with an emergent family situation, with no timeline for his return.
