The Toronto Maple Leafs appear to be considering quite the lineup change, and Easton Cowan is the focus of all of the attention at Leafs practice on Sunday.

After a disappointing loss to the Detroit Red Wings, a game marred by sluggish play, turnovers, and a lack of offensive spark, it seems as though the Toronto Maple Leafs are already eyeing substantial lineup changes.
Head coach Craig Berube is, rightfully so, looking to inject speed and energy into the top six, and all signs point to Easton Cowan getting his shot, with wearing a top-six jersey in practice on Sunday.
Cowan, who has been scratched for the first two games of the season, is expected to draw into Monday's lineup, and in a much higher position than expected.
With Bobby McMann moving out of the top-six, the original consensus was that Cowan could get a look next to John Tavares and William Nylander. However, when line rushes took place, Cowan was skating with Auston Matthews and Matthew Knies on the top line.
Cowan's dynamic game could be exactly what the Leafs need to reignite their offence. His standout performance during training camp, which caught the attention of the coaching staff, now appears to be paying off.
At just 20 years old, Cowan's blend of speed, competitiveness, and hockey IQ has impressed coaches and teammates alike. He isn't the biggest player at six feet and 190 pounds, but his relentless motor and willingness to engage physically make him a natural fit in Berube's system.
After watching from the sidelines, the timing feels perfect for the young forward to make an impact and show he belongs in the everyday lineup, especially after injuries to Steven Lorentz and Scott Laughton have put the Leafs in a precarious position, depth-wise.
For a Maple Leafs team that has struggled to generate five-on-five offense through two games, Cowan's arrival could serve as the jolt they need. His creativity and ability to hound defenders on the forecheck align perfectly with Berube's hard-nosed philosophy.
