Maple Leafs Officially Return Prospect to Junior Team as Roster Cuts Continue

The Maple Leafs have played 4 pre-season games thus far and have just 2 remaining before the start of the regular season on October 8th.

One wave of cuts has already occurred, and with more cuts yet to come, the Leafs have announced on Sunday that they have decided to send 19-year-old forward prospect Miroslav Holinka back to the Edmonton Oil Kings in the WHL.

Holinka stuck around in training camp much longer than most had anticipated. The Czech forward impressed many within the organization at this summer's development camp, the Rookie Showcase just prior to Leafs training camp, and then rolled into camp with a full head of steam.

Holinka really made a name for himself last season, as he produced 19 goals and 45 points across 47 games in his first year in North America as a member of the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Naturally, there was never really a spot available for him with the Maple Leafs this year, but after surviving the first wave of cuts, there's little doubt that Holinka was able to pick up some good tips before being send back down to junior with what, I'm sure, is a very specific assignment from the Leafs.

The Leafs were impressed enough with the former 5th round pick last season that they signed him to a 3-year entry-level contract on July 15th, worth $918,333 per season.
