Maple Leafs Officially Open Trade Discussions Involving Three Forwards, Per NHL Insider

It's no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs have been working the phones diligently this summer in an attempt to move off of a few forwards and to alleviate cap space.

David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok, and Nick Robertson have all been involved in trade talks, but to no avail, as the Leafs haven't been able to find anyone to bite. However, according to recent reports, that hasn't deterred GM Brad Treliving from continuing his pursuit of a trade.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period mentioned that the Leafs have begun reaching out to teams once again as rosters are beginning to take shape in anticipation of the regular season, which starts in less than 2 weeks.

Kampf and Jarnkrok have always been seen as cap dumps with both players having cap hits over $2 million, and despite signing an extension earlier this summer, Robertson's name has never left the trading block.

While having depth at the forward position is crucial for a long season, the Leafs don't have the room to house all 3 players, especially if top prospect Easton Cowan continues to play well during pre-season contests and earns a roster spot to start the year.

Their inability to move any of them this summer had stalled their pursuits for a top-6 forward and Jack Roslovic, who surprisingly remains a free agent, despite several teams being interested.

It might be tough sledding for Treliving to find suitors at this stage of the off-season with most teams looking to subtract rather than add. However injuries are always a possibility and teams will continue to look to add NHL-calibre depth, so there's always a chance.

At the very least, Treliving is working the phones aggressively and should be able to find at least one suitor for either of his forwards before the season begins.
