Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving met with the media on Wednesday and has confirmed ongoing trade talks to bring in a top-6 forward.
There's no question that the Toronto Maple Leafs had a massive hole to fill when it became clear that
Mitch Marner would not be back this season.
Thus far, the Leafs have looked to replace him by committee, adding several forwards with playmaking and penalty killing abilities in
Matias Maccelli,
Dakota Joshua and
Nicolas Roy. Unfortunately, they haven't been able to land a true top-6 forward.
On Wednesday, as NHL training camps commenced, the Maple Leafs enjoyed a busy media day ahead of the on-ice grind that is to come.
Leafs GM Brad Treliving Confirms Trade Talks Ongoing to Bring in a Top-6 Forward
Brad Treliving, the Leafs' GM, was one of those who spoke with members of the media in Toronto on Wednesday, and when asked whether he's still seeking an upgrade in the top six, his answer was a resounding "Yeah".
"It's not from a lack of trying. You're always looking to try to improve your team. I think league-wide, it was a slower summer... We would like to add (a top-6 F)."
Treliving was forced to deal Mitch Marner to the Vegas Golden Knights for somewhat of a lacklustre return in Nicolas Roy, but make no mistake about it, Roy is still a very useful player. Likewise, Maccelli and Joshua are also useful players, but none of the three are bonafide top-6 forwards.
