The Maple Leafs have used their first pick, 64th overall in the NHL Entry Draft, to select a massive 6-foot-4 center to help replenish their depth at the position.
As the club shifts away from former GM Kyle Dubas' penchant for drafting small, skilled players, the first selection from Mark Leach and Brad Treliving at the 2025 NHL Entry Draft not only helps with the depth down the middle, but adds a player with tremendous size.
With the 64th overall selection, the Leafs drafted 6'4, 190-pound center
Tinus Luc Koblar. The big Norwegian played last season in Sweden with Leksands' U18 and U20 teams with another Maple Leafs selection from the 2024 draft,
Victor Johansson.
The 17-year-old collected 9 points in 7 games with the U-18s, but posted a respectable 21 points in 43 games with the U-20s.
Dobber Prospects called his package of tools 'very enticing' while noting that his physicality should increase as he continues to add size to his 6'4 frame.
Many expected the Leafs to draft a defenseman with their top pick in this draft, so to see them go with a forward was somewhat unexpected.
Their next selection will take place in the middle of the 3rd round, and it wouldn't be surprising to see them use that pick on a rearguard to help inject some youth into the team's pipeline on the blueline.
