Leafs' William Nylander Shares Surprisingly Dismissive Comment About 40-Goal Season

The Leafs are currently deadlocked with the Florida Panthers for the top spot in the Atlantic Division, and with home ice on the line in the playoffs, the race is likely to remain very heated until the end of the season.

William Nylander is coming off of a massive 4-point outing against the Philadelphia Flyers on Tuesday, and told the media after the game that it's just what he's paid to do. He seems to understand his assignment.

The Calgary-born Swede notched goal number 40 on the season last night, which marks his 3rd consecutive 40-goal campaign. However, when asked about goal number 40, he made an immediate remark about where his true focus is -- and it's not on a 40-goal regular season.

The Leafs have had a terrible run of bad luck in the playoffs over the last 2 decades, either missing entirely or being bounced in the first round all but once.

Nylander missed some time during last year's playoffs with some serious migraines that impacted his vision and prevented him from being able to see clearly.

Now, with the potential for an Atlantic Division win, which would set up an easier 1st round matchup, the Leafs could be looking at a less difficult route to round 2 and potentially beyond.

Nylander has historically been a pretty solid contributor for the Leafs in the playoffs, so his focus already being on the postseason is good news for Leafs Nation. Nylander's priorities certainly seem to be in order.
