With the Toronto Maple Leafs going through a bit of an up and down period at the moment, one thing is clear, the group remains tight and ready to battle. As we saw last year, the team is becoming really tight and you can catch them often making each other laugh on the bench or in the locker room. On Tuesday the Maple Leafs played an afternoon game against the Carolina Hurricanes and according to Leafs head coach Mike Babcock the team had fun with the start time. According to Babcock, himself and other Leafs players chirped youngster Mitch Marner about the games start time. Comments like "it's the first time we're playing in front of your classmates" "Mitchy the first time you're not playing past your bedtime".According to Babcock, teammates continued to chirp him on the bench during the game too about trying to play good and impress his classmates in the audience. Marner did end up impressing the kids in the crowd as the Leafs beat the Hurricanes 8-1 and Marner registered four points which included one goal and three assists as well as six shots on goal. After a bit of a rough period for the 20 year old which saw him playing on the fourth line, Marner now has 24 points in 35 games, however that unfortunately only includes three goals.
