With the pre-season coming to a close, Leafs goaltender James Reimer addresses his future after signing a PTO with the club during training camp.

After Joseph Woll was granted a leave of absence to tend to a personal family matter at the start of training camp, the Toronto Maple Leafs decided to bring back James Reimer on a PTO in order to shore up their depth.
Anthony Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby combined to play most of the games for the Leafs during the pre-season, but it was still a feel-good story as the veteran goaltender returned back to where it all began for him.
Reimer made an appearance in last night's contest against the Detroit Red Wings, where he looked sharp for most of it, until the opposition scored 2 goals in the final 3 minutes to force overtime before Dylan Larkin eventually scored the winner on the power play.
It wasn't the ending that Reimer was hoping for, but the 37-year-old was holding down the fort fairly well until some untimely penalties brought the Red Wings back into the game.
As for what the future holds, Reimer is not entirely sure. He's grateful for the opportunity and hopes he can stick around but it now falls on the Leafs to make a final decision.
I'm going to take it minute by minute, I guess, and we'll see what happens. I think, like I said early on in the week, it was a joy to come here, and we'll see what happens -- what decisions get made, and what the need is, and what they think they need going forward. So we'll see how that goes, and we'll find out together.
The Leafs have 3 choices laid out in front of them as they can either sign him to a standard contract and have him around for NHL depth, release him from his PTO, or convert his current tryout into an AHL PTO so he can get reps with the Toronto Marlies.
With Reimer unsigned, Stolarz and Hildeby are expected to start the season in the NHL for as long as Woll is sidelined.
Rosters for opening night are due on Monday, so it will be interesting to see what the Maple Leafs decide to do with the veteran goaltender.
