With training camp and the pre-season progressing, Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube has released an official update on the status of the injured Simon Benoit.

While a recent update on the injury to Toronto Maple Leafs defenceman Simon Benoit caused some concern, coach Craig Berube is putting that to rest.
Benoit has been injured since the very start of training camp, and there is some worry he won't be ready for the start of the regular season. However, according to Berube, that worry does not come from anyone in the organization.

Simon Benoit Close to Returning, According to Leafs Head Coach Craig Berube

On Wednesday, Benoit skated by himself before the regular training camp activities got underway. This was followed by an update from Berube, who told reporters it "shouldn't be too long" before Benoit is back in the lineup.

A Positive Update on Leafs Defenceman Simon Benoit

This is, of course, great news for the Maple Leafs as there have been some injury concerns with multiple players so far in this training camp.
New Leafs forward Nicolas Roy, who shares an interesting connection with Leafs legend Dave Keon, is not yet ready to play, while goaltender Joseph Woll has left the team indefinitely for personal reasons.
Luckily for the Leafs, there is a lot of depth on the blueline, with up to 17 defenceman listed on the roster for the team's training camp. That said, Benoit was in the lineup for 78 games in 2024-25 and is pretty much guaranteed a spot when he's healthy.
The Maple Leafs have not said anything specific about Benoit's injury, other than it is an "upper-body" ailment. There is still no set timeline for his return.
Toronto has four preseason games left until the 2025-26 season officially gets underway.
