New Leaf Nicolas Roy Shares an Interesting Connection with Leafs Legend Dave Keon

New Maple Leafs forward Nicolas Roy shares an interesting connection with Leafs legend Dave Keon, and like Keon, Roy is coming in ready to win.
The Leafs are going to have several new faces when they take to the ice on opening night next month, but before then, they have to get through what is sure to be a gruelling training camp.
One of the newest Maple Leafs, Nicolas Roy, also happens to have something in common with one of its oldest, and most decorated legends -- former captain and 4-time Stanley Cup winner, Dave Keon.
During an interview at the Leafs and Legends Charity Golf Classic, Roy had the opportunity to discuss his connection to Keon, as both players hail from the same region in Quebec, Keon from Rouyn-Noranda, and Roy from Amos -- though Roy did begin skating in Rouyn-Noranda.
It's not lost on Roy just how important a figure in hockey and in his home community that Keon is.
"A guy that played here and had success from the same region that's a good relation. It's fun. He's a legend up there for sure," said Roy of Keon.
Just like Keon, Roy plays a strong two-way game, and can contribute in many areas for the Maple Leafs -- maybe not on the same level, but certainly with the same passion.
Roy revealed on Monday just how important he thinks the defensive side of the game truly is, and shared what he feels he can bring to the table for the Leafs.
"I think (defence) is really important. Everyone has four lines that can score, so it's really important to have everyone on the ice who can play good defensively. You'll see more and more of even those tough guys being good 200 feet. I'm taking a lot of pride in that. I play a pretty simple game: Forecheck, go to the net front, protect pucks and be hard to play against."

Roy also made his intentions very clear on Monday: he wants to win, and he wants to win this season. He believes the Leafs are ready to challenge for a Cup, and he has every intention of helping to get the job done.
"I want to win right now. You saw what the team did in the playoffs last year with the toughest match-up against Florida (a seven-game affair). It's good to be part of this group."
