There's a 1st time for everything, even for an Original 6 club like the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The goaltending duo of Joseph Woll and Anthony Stolarz, who are in their 1st year together as a tandem in the Toronto crease, have officially made franchise history.
With Joseph Woll having posted his 25th win of the season against the Ducks on Sunday, he and Stolarz are the 1st 25/15 win duo that the team has ever employed in net; Woll is 25-13-1 with a 2.78 GAA and .906 SV%, while Stolarz is 16-8-3 with a 2.35 GAA and .919 SV%. Both goaltenders have posted a single shutout.
After Toronto's 3-2 win over the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center, Woll shared the love with his teammates by crediting them for their fearless attitude when it comes to a defensive mindset, along with shot blocking.
"The biggest thing is they're putting the team first. It's just unselfish when you get guys in front of shots like that. They don't have as much gear as me and it doesn't feel good. We have a hell of a defence corps.
That's the stuff that wins championships, guys coming off the ice bruised and banged up. I appreciate that more than words can say. They're putting their bodies on the line for me and Stolie and that's awesome."
It remains to be seen which goaltender will be tabbed as the starter by first-year head coach Craig Berube for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, which are officially set to begin later this month.
