Former NHLer and co-host of the Spittin' Chiclets podcast Ryan Whitney revealed a major concern among fans as it pertains to the future of Leafs RFA Matthew Knies.
The majority of Leafs Nation seems to be okay with that, because it will allow the team to defer all major decisions about the roster until after the playoffs have Come and gone.
The one concern that most seem to align with Sportsnet's Jason Bukala on is that the priority should be re-signing pending RFA Matthew Knies to avoid the concerns raised by the aforementioned Ryan Whitney on a recent episode of Spittin' Chiclets.
"I think he's gonna get offer-sheeted," said Whitney. "Like how you saw Broberg and Holloway. Like, you give the offer sheets, and I'm assuming Toronto would match, but he's just so good.
And with the cap going up, I think maybe offer sheets will become a much bigger thing, a much more popular thing. How else are you gonna get studs? You can't get them anymore."
The 22-year old is one of three players to register 150+ hits and 25+ goals this season joining Brady Tkachuk and Tom Wilson and is certainly avoiding any traditional 'sophomore slump'.
The 2021 second-rounder has tallied 25 goals and 49 points through 70 games this season skating primarily on a line with fellow Arizona native Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
While there have been little to no contract talks to speak of so far this season, hopefully the Leafs and Knies are able to come to an agreement on an extension rather quickly once the Leafs' playoff run comes to an end, whether that is at the end of April or the end of June.
