Saturday night, the Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the New York Rangers in a shootout to kick off another win streak with their second win in a row after after the Vegas Golden Knights snapped their 7-game win streak earlier in the week. It came at a cost, though, as they lost newly re-acquired defenseman Ilya Lyubushkin in the second period to a head injury following a questionable hit from Rangers rookie forward Matt Rempe.
The debate on social media was that it could have been called a charge at the very least given the number of strides Rempe took and the fact that he left his feet to deliver the hit. On TSN1050's 'First Up' this morning, Chris Johnston was asked about the possibility of Rempe facing supplemental discipline for the hit.
Like every fan, team and player, Johnston has no idea what is and isn't suspend-able anymore because George Parros and the DOPS have been consistently inconsistent with their rulings over the last several seasons. Although there will be no suspension for Rempe on this hit, you can almost guarantee that the next borderline hit the league sees will come with one given the outrage over the lack of action for a questionable hit that led to an injury.
