Hurricanes reveal the type of a return they're looking for in Martin Necas trade
The rumour mill has been spinning in Carolina for weeks regarding Hurricanes forward Martin Necas and now we finally know what type of return the Canes want.
The star forward has really struggled with his consistency in Carolina and has reportedly been looking for a change of scenery. However, up until today, we really had no idea what type of return the Hurricanes are expecting to receive.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the package that the Canes are looking for involves "star power".
"Carolina is letting people know that they consider Necas a budding star and that's the kind of return they want...Star power is what they want in return, I heard"
-Friedman on the Necas situation in Carolina
Friedman's co-host, Jeff Marek, clarified that what this means is that Carolina is not looking for a return based on futures. They don't want picks and prospects, they're looking at more of a hockey trade, star-for-star.
Obviously, with Necas being a restricted free agent, the possibility of an offer sheet does exist, though we don't see a whole lot of them occur. However, with Necas as disgruntled as he is in Carolina, perhaps he wouldn't hesitate to sign one, which makes dealing him soon a priority for the Hurricanes.
Necas registered 24 goals and 53 points in 77 games for the Hurricanes this past season, a bit of a step down from the 28 goals and 71 points he produced in 2022-23.
