Max Pacioretty, who made a comeback from injury with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, has reportedly retired from the NHL and has taken on a new job.

On Monday, we learned of the surprising end to the NHL career of former Toronto Maple Leafs player Max Pacioretty.
According to reports, Pacioretty has retired from the NHL despite having interest from several teams.
Nick Alberga of Leafs Morning Take says Pacioretty is hanging up the skates after taking on a position with the University of Michigan. It's not yet clear what that position is.
A first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in 2007, Pacioretty had four seasons in a row with just under 40 goals before being flipped to the Vegas Golden Knights in a trade that saw Nick Suzuki going to the Habs.
Pacioretty's stint with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season saw his second return from issues with his Achilles tendon. He played 37 regular seasons games with the team, scoring 5 goals and 13 points.
However, Pacioretty looked great in the 2025 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs, playing 11 post season games with Toronto and scoring 3 goals and 5 assists. His effort in the playoffs was noted by several of his teammates, as well as analysts across the league.
Pacioretty, 36, retires with 939 regular seasons games under his belt, scoring 335 goals and 681 points. All the best in the next chapter of your life, Patches!
