Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews was officially named to Team USA for the 2026 Olympic Games and helps show off this year's Team USA jerseys.
As the NHL season will soon get underway, attention is already turning toward the 2026 Winter Olympics, set for February. It will mark the first time since 2014 in Sochi, Russia, that NHL players take the Olympic ice.
Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is already considered a lock for Team USA and is widely viewed as the favourite to wear the "C."
He has already captained the Americans at the 4 Nations Face-Off earlier this year.
This week, Matthews and several other players debuted Team USA's new Olympic jerseys, featuring a classic look, bold red lettering running diagonally across a deep blue sweater.
Team USA announced the reveal on X, writing:
"America, assemble
The first men named to the U.S. Olympic Hockey Team."
Matthews Poised to Lead Team USA to Olympic Success
While Matthews and the Americans were left disappointed by a 3-2 loss to Team Canada in the gold medal game at the 4 Nations Face-Off, they will be hungry for redemption in February -- and Matthews looks poised to lead the charge.
