First Look at Former Maple Leafs Winger With His New Team a Reminder of a Missed Opportunity

A pair of photos have emerged showing former Maple Leafs winger Mason Marchment in his new Seattle Kraken gear and it's a sign of a missed opportunity.
Near the on-set of free agency, the Toronto Maple Leafs were heavily linked to power forward Mason Marchment, who was then currently a member of the Dallas Stars.
The former Maple Leafs product was placed on the chopping block with Dallas, who was trying to find a way to alleviate cap space, and he seemed like the perfect fit after all the comments that were made by the Leafs' front office about their attempt to change the DNA of the team.
Fast forward a few months, and after a lengthy summer, the Kraken finally posted a picture of Marchment in his new threads, and it's a subtle reminder to Leafs Nation of what could have been.
Marchment, who carries a cap hit of $4.5 million this year, will become a free agent next summer, should he get to that point. The Maple Leafs could always circle back in the off-season, or even at the trade deadline if Seattle is out of the playoff picture.
For the first time in awhile, Toronto is carrying a bit of extra cap space entering the regular season, and they could find a way to get even more if they can trade away veteran forwards like
David Kampf or
Calle Jarnkrok.
As for now, the Kraken get a very useful power forward who has registered 22 goals in back to back seasons, as well as 100 points total during that stretch.
While the Leafs might regret not pushing a bit harder for his services, they were able to secure other important pieces in the form of
Dakota Joshua and
Nicolas Roy, who play a heavy game and should give the club a major boost in 2025-26.
