Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has confirmed his involvement in a highly anticipated charity event in the absence of ex-teammate Mitch Marner.

As he prepares for what everyone hopes is a healthy, bounce-back season, Auston Matthews took to the ice in Arizona recently with Utah Mammoth forward Clayton Keller as the two usually do before heading back to their respective NHL teams.
As Matthews and the rest of the Maple Leafs slowly return to Toronto ahead of training camp next month and prepare for their first season without Mitch Marner, the 27-year-old captain will be returning to Toronto a bit earlier than normal for a heartwarming reason.

Auston Matthews to Replace Mitch Marner at Charity Game

On Friday afternoon, the City of Brampton's Mayor Patrick Brown announced that Matthews will be skating in the Hockey Night in Brampton Charity Game to benefit the William Osler Health System.
Matthews will not only participate alongside the likes of Mark Giordano, Dylan Strome and Ryan Getzlaf, but he will also captain one of the teams.
The three-time Rocket Richard Trophy winner skated in the event's inaugural game in 2023, but was unavailable last year. This time around, Matthews will be replacing the departed Mitch Marner, who is getting settled in Vegas ahead of the season.
"I'm honoured and excited to be part of Hockey Night in Brampton this year. It's always special to give back to the community through the game that has given us so much," said Matthews about participating in the event. "Seeing guys like Mitch, John and Max take part in the past made it clear how important this cause is. I'm looking forward to hitting the ice and being part of an incredible night for the fans."
Matthews, Strome, Getzlaf, Curtis Joseph and many other current and former NHLers will be hitting the ice August 20th at the CAA Center in Brampton in what will surely be an entertaining and fun night for fans.
