There's been lots of questions raised over the last month regarding the Toronto Maple Leafs' coaching staff. Of course the big headline was regarding head coach Mike Babcock and GM Kyle Dubas' refusal to confirm Babcock will be back during the year end presser. Dubas eventually announced to Bob McKenzie that Babcock will start the season behind the Leafs' bench. One of Babcock's assistants, DJ Smith has been interviewing for various jobs and is labelled as one of the top candidates for the Ottawa Senators vacant head coaching position. While it's unsure if Smith will leave his Leafs' gig, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reports another one of Babcock's assistants is pretty much guaranteed to be gone. Jim Hiller has been taking care of the Leafs' power play and has "blanket permission" to interview with other teams and isn't expected to be back. Things point to Hiller joining the Nashville Predators and helping their league worst power play.
