"With the Toronto Maple Leafs currently struggling and watching their second place lead in the Atlantic Division starting to slip, trade talk has heated up. We're getting closer to the NHL trade deadline and the main point of focus continues to be of course the need for a right handed defenseman. Despite the struggles, general manager Kyle Dubas likes what he's seen from the Leafs and feels they've earned the right for Dubas to land some help. «They've earned to right for us to explore ways to make the team better. We're trying to do that. If there are things we feel fit for us in the short and long term then we'll continue to explore"
Dubas is willing to make some trades, but it doesn't sound like he's in the market for any type of rental player. The idea that the Leafs are looking to possibly add a player with term definitely makes the offseason more complicated with all the new contracts that could be needed.
