The Toronto Maple Leafs are reportedly still working in earnest trying to lock down a trade partner for depth forward David Kampf.

Prior to the start of the 2025-26 season, the Maple Leafs had placed veteran winger David Kampf on waivers in hopes that someone would claim him and his $2.4M cap hit, freeing up a significant chunk of money for the Leafs to reallocate elsewhere in the lineup.
Unfortunately, Kampf cleared waivers, with the Leafs being able to only bury a portion of his cap hit in the American Hockey League.

TSN's Darren Dreger Provides Update on David Kampf Situation

It's been relatively quiet surrounding Kampf ever since, but on Thursday, TSN's Darren Dreger provided an update on the situation, confirming that the Leafs are attempting to move him in a pure cap dump situation.
"We know that GM Brad Treliving continues to explore the idea of moving both David Kampf and Nick Robertson. Now, the veteran David Kampf, who is in the American league, it's more about just getting off the money. For Nick Robertson... he's a young guy who the Toronto Maple Leafs have time for, and they are in no rush to move him out."
Kampf has played 4 games with the Marlies thus far, tallying just one lone assist, so in my opinion, he's not exactly doing himself any favours or changing anyone's minds about his future in Toronto.

David Kampf Does Have Some Desirable Skills

Still, a defensively responsible forward with quality penalty killing abilities, there's no question that there's a team out there who could take another look at Kampf as a potential stop-gap in the event of an injury to someone else in their NHL lineup.
Kampf has plenty of NHL experience, having suited up in 536 career NHL games, and teams are always looking for depth at center around the playoffs. So, worst case scenario, if the Leafs have to hold onto him until closer to the deadline, they may have an easier time moving him then.
