The Toronto Maple Leafs offseason drama continues to build up, all highlighted by the Mitch Marner situation. It's been reported that Marner will meet with other teams during the restricted free agency interview period and there's already been confirmation that Marner has spoken with the Montreal Canadiens. NHL insider Darren Dreger has been one of the people at the forefront pushing the idea that Marner wants to explore the idea of signing with another team. With that has come a huge outrage on Twitter and social media and Dreger called some fans out for taking it too far adding that some of the comments would make it easier for Marner to sign elsewhere. "Are we talking about the true Maple Leafs fan base, or just the underbelly of social media that just wants to respond and react and try to be funny?Thats more the case the latter.
The educated hockey fan doesn't have to agree with the player, the Leafs fan base wants Toronto to win the Stanley Cup and Marner would be a key contributor for that happening. So the idea that Marner might go by offer sheet or get traded for that to happen is upsetting to fans.I'm a 51 year old man and could give a rats ass what anybody says to me on Twitter, however it's not as easy for a young 20 year old. The comments might make it easier to sign an offer sheet when you've got the morons on social media saying what they're saying"You can hear the whole segment by clicking here.
