Toronto Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk is set to one of the top free agents if he doesn't re-up with the Toronto Maple Leafs. That is of course if he isn't traded by the Leafs before the deadline, there's been reports of both sides hoping to work on an extension. While those reports could easily be true, it's also been confirmed that there's been no negotiations at all on that possible extension. NHL insider Darren Dreger appeared on Leafs Lunch on Tuesday and built on Bob McKenzie's prediction on what it would cost to keep JVR in Toronto. McKenzie recently stated that he expects the starting point of any negotiations to be at a minimum of at least a five year contract around $6million a season just to start the negotiations. While Dreger was on the same page when it comes to the money looking at a $6million a season contract, he believes it'll be a minimum of at least six years. With all the big extensions coming up for Auston Matthews, William Nylander and Mitch Marner, do you think there's room to give JVR a minimum 6x6 contract? You can listen to the full segment by clicking here.
