Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube has enjoyed great success with the team in his first season in Toronto, but few have realized that it's actually record-setting.

In his first year behind the bench in Toronto, Craig Berube has led the Toronto Maple Leafs to a remarkable 50-26-4 record, placing them at the top of the Atlantic Division. With just two games remaining, the Leafs have all but secured first place in the division -- an impressive accomplishment when you consider the drastic leadership changes.
Berube's debut season isn't just successful -- it's actually historic. His 50 wins set a new franchise record for the most by a head coach in their first season with the team, placing him among some of the greatest Leafs coaches of all time.
As per LeafsLatest on X:
"50 wins in his first season as the boss.

• Most wins by a Leafs head coach in his first season with the team:

Craig Berube: 50 and counting (2024-25)
Pat Quinn: 45 (1998-99)
Pat Burns: 44 (1992-93)"
Veteran defenseman Morgan Rielly recently spoke about the difference under Berube's leadership, noting that the team is now consistently coming out on top in close games -- something that wasn't as common during Sheldon Keefe's tenure.
While Berube continues to build on his record-setting first season, Mitch Marner is chasing a milestone of his own. The dynamic winger sits at 99 points, just one shy of reaching the 100-point mark, with two games left to play.
Berube's arrival has clearly shifted the culture in Toronto, especially for first-year captain Auston Matthews, who has embraced his leadership role both on and off the ice. Matthews has routinely stepped up in key moments and taken a more vocal presence with the media as well.
Of course, Berube's first season in Toronto will largely be judged on how the team does in the playoffs, but it's still worth celebrating a successful first season.
