Even with the Leafs struggling upon his arrival, Carlo has played very well since trading the black and gold for the blue and white and as the team posed for their annual team picture on Tuesday, (where they made him remove his skates due to his towering stature), the 28-year-old shared he is quickly becoming a fan of wearing the Maple Leaf.
"I didn't have my skates on for the first couple. They had to make us look shorter. Me, Hakanpaa and Stevie Lorentz, all the tall guys to the back. But I'm definitely liking this blue."
After years of trading for a short-term fix on the right side next to Rielly, the Leafs finally gave the longest tenured Leaf some long-term continuity with the acquisition of Carlo.
Carlo is signed for two more seasons after this year that comes with a cap hit slightly over $3.8M. While he isn't flashy, he fills a very important spot on the blueline in a top-four, right-shot defenseman that brings physicality, sandpaper and skating ability. As he gets more comfortable in the Leafs' systems he will surely help Rielly get back to his old, freely playing self.
