Don't look now, but Toronto Maple Leafs top prospect Easton Cowan is having himself another solid playoffs with the London Knights following a breakout season.
The London Knights have taken a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Saginaw Spirit in the OHL's Western Conference Finals, thanks in part to Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan, who has watched his success continue into the post-season after a breakout campaign in London this season.
After posting 96 points in 54 games this season with the Knights, Cowan has kept right on trucking in the playoffs to the tune of 4 goals and 14 points in 12 games, putting him ahead of his pace from last season, where he scored 21 points in 20 playoff games.
Cowan enjoyed another 2-point night for the Knights on Wednesday, first assisting on
Sam O'Reilly's 1st period tally, and then helping put the game out of reach for the Knights in the 3rd period with a lucky bounce off of a Saginaw defender in an eventual 7-3 win.
It may also excite you to learn that Cowan has been named the OHL's regular season MVP on Thursday. Not bad for a kid whom many were surprised to see drafted by the Leafs at 28th overall back in June of 2023.
The Knights are now just one win away from punching their ticket to the OHL Championship Finals and Cowan is a big reason why they are where they are. Cowan currently sits just 12th in playoff scoring, but has played less games than most of the players in front of him on the list. He's also 8th in playoff assists with 10 on the year.
This is exactly what the Leafs were hoping for when they sent Cowan back to junior, following training camp. The Leafs wanted to see Cowan dominate at the junior level and help lead his team to an OHL Championship. Now, the Knights are just 5 wins away from making that a reality.
