Absurd Anthony Stolarz Stat in First Season With Leafs Turning Heads Around the NHL

While he may be struggling recently, Anthony Stolarz's first season with the Toronto Maple Leafs is one he can be very proud of.

With 26 starts under his belt, Stolarz is three games away from setting a new career high for starts in a season, while sporting a 2.39 goals against average and a .918 save percentage.

There's also another recently released statistic that solidifies his excellent season so far. According to Sportsnet Stats, Stolarz is in second place in the entire NHL for Goals Saved Above Expected per 60 Minutes.

If you're not overly familiar with hockey analytics, Goals Saved Above Expected per 60 Minutes measures a goalie's performance by comparing their actual goals allowed to the expected number of goals they should have allowed, considering the quality of shots they faced.

As mentioned previously, Stolarz has struggled to find consistency since undergoing knee surgery back in December.

While his stats are still impressive, Joseph Woll is getting a second straight start tonight against the Colorado Avalanche in a potential sign of who will be the team's playoff starter.

Leafs coach Craig Berube has rotated his starting goaltender often in the regular season, but has indicated he will appoint a number one netminder in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Woll may be the frontrunner at the moment, but don't count Stolarz out as the potential starter for Game 1, especially if he can regain the tremendous consistency that he had shown at the start of the season.
