We may finally have a term and an AAV connected to Nazem Kadri and it's not nearly as high as some had originally thought

It's really anyone's guess at this point what the hold-up with a Nazem Kadri contract announcement is. Some are of the mindset that Kadri is already locked up in principle by Lou Lamoriello and the New York Islanders and others who believe that it's Kadri's lofty $9M price tag that is holding up a deal with an interested party.

Thanks to Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli, we finally have at least some clarity on the situation. Seravalli said on a recent edition of the DFO Rundown that Kadri is indeed sitting on an offer from the Islanders. We also finally have a number available in terms of the possible AAV of the deal.

"I think (the #isles) put an offer on the table for Kadri. Other teams have told me they believe it's in the 7x7 range."

-Seravalli on the Kadri situation

$7M is a much more palatable number in any Kadri deal. Granted, he is a Stanley Cup Champion and he did enjoy a lot of success last season, but there is nothing in his scoring history, aside from last season, that would indicate that he's capable of replicating that sort of production. Certainly not for 7 seasons anyway.

Whether a deal is announced soon, we still don't have the answer. But the fact that there's a term and an AAV rumoured to be tabled by the team who Kadri was rumoured to have agreed to sign with is a pretty good indicator that something could be getting closer.
